New ADU Initiatives in Mass

Hey, do you want to build an ADU? The state of Massachusetts might give you a loan of up to $250,000. So, Massachusetts passed the Affordable Homes Act and that was implemented in February of 2025.

Since then, there have been more than 900 permits submitted for ADUs, but that's not enough. We need more.

Governor Healey has just announced this week there's going to be a bunch of new initiatives to try and take away some of the barriers and promote more construction.

One thing is a design competition so that there can be easily replicable, good ADU designs that are accessible to people so you don't have to, like, hire an architect or come up with your own design.

Another one of the new initiatives is a loan, a low-cost loan option for low- and moderate-income homeowners who, want to build an ADU.

If you're a builder, you should take notice. This is an area that you need to get in on now.
